As reported by Scientific American, research presented at this year's American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting linked the medications to lower rates of certain cancers, slower disease progression and improved survival. What's making these findings especially intriguing is that they may not be explained by weight loss alone. While obesity is a known risk factor for at least 13 types of cancer, scientists are investigating whether GLP-1 drugs themselves could influence how tumors develop and spread through their anti-inflammatory effects and the receptors they activate throughout the body.
