Surgery is usually the first move against cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), the second most common skin cancer. But when a tumor comes with more aggressive features, cutting it out doesn’t always guarantee it stays gone, and until now, doctors have had few tools to lower that risk afterward. That may be starting to change. As reported by Dermatology Times, a large clinical trial found that giving the immunotherapy drug cemiplimab (Libtayo) for a year after surgery significantly lowered the odds of high-risk SCC returning, compared with a placebo.
