I check email from the dinner table. So, when anyone promises “restoration,” I usually hear a polite way of saying “you’re going to sit here and think about everything in a nicer room.” Mirbeau’s new Hudson Valley outpost is the first place in a long time that got me to reconsider. Beyond the personal issues (there’s a longer list if you want it) listed above, the spa history is the real story. Every property wants you to feel like you’re standing somewhere sacred, and most of the time it’s a plaque near the front desk and a candle scent doing the lifting.
