In 1986, Dr. Farouk Shami, founder and chairman of Farouk Systems, the company that would later give us the cult-favorite CHI flat iron, introduced natural silk proteins to professional hair care with BioSilk Silk Therapy ($33). The serum he launched that year went on to become one of the most recognizable bottles in the business.
